August 22nd – 31st - Carifesta X

During the Celebration of Carifesta on August 22nd thru August 31st 2008 in Guyana, as many as twenty nine different countries attended and gave spectacular performances; including Shanna Somaroo a very prestigious student of Malini Shah performed a Solo Item.

Oct 17th - The Guria Benefit Program

On October 17th 2009, In an attempt to bring focus to women’s freedom and strength Columbia University’s The Center for Ethnomusicology and Bernard College’s center for Research on Women Presented The Guria Benefit. The Benefit included performances by various performers including Nritya Kala Kendra’s very own Shanna who gave a wonderful Kathak performance. Other artists included Nemanja Rebic and Bill Buchen (Fusion guitar and Tabla) and Kiran Ahluwalia (Ghazal).

In celebration of the birth anniversary of India’s late first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru Children’s Day was celebrated on the 14th of November 2008. Performances were held at the Indian Consulate in New York. Joining in the celebrations were the Ragachitra Foundation which performed the National Anthem of India as well as the United States, The Philosophy Day school who gave a heartfelt Sanskrit Prayer led by William Fox, The Kalavant Center who gave a Tabla and Sitar performance and many more.
